Does the way we communicate with each other alter that experience significantly?

Do you agree with the following statements? Whay? With what do you agree? Disagree?:

  1. Writing with pen and paper encourages you to reflect for a moment before you begin writing?
  2. E-mail and texting and interactions onf Facebook encourage more efficient and instantaneous affirmation or rejection of our feelings? It also forms a social anxiety caused by the public nature of so many of our communications?
  3. Does a plethora of choices result in decision fatigue?

The use of global positioning system devices significantly erodes our capacity to create “mental maps,” a skill that brings with it countless cognitive benefits. Might texting and e-mailing and tweeting eventually have the same deleterious effect on, for instance, our ability to experience longing?

Does constant access creat pleonexia–always wanting more of what we already have? Are there hidden costs to immediate gratification?
